Social Posts

Facebook Post: The Facebook posts would be longer because the website allows you to type more and the news feed on Facebook tends to be more in depth than other social media websites. Facebook is a good way to get stories into the hands of the reader because of how the website algorithm identifies what would be interesting to other people.

The first post I would talk about the differences in shots and who controlled the first period of the game between the offense and defense. In the first period the Boston Bruins took 14 shots while the Tampa Bay Lightening took 5. I would also include the stats from the first half or a link leading to the stats.

The second post would be about all the penalties and fights that occurred during the game between players. There was one brawl that was between all ten players and there was at least two fights a period. I would include a picture of the pile up and a short video of the fight.

The third post would be about how the Tampa Bay Lightening’s coach got ejected from the game and say what led him to getting that upset to be ejected. I would also include a picture of the coach so the audience could see his face and how upset he was.

Twitter: I would use for quick live updates because you are limited on how much you can write and people on twitter are usually on their phone just scrolling. Many sports fans look on twitter for quick updates on what is going on in the game.

The first tweet would be an update on how the Bruins are trailing the Lightening 0-2 at the end of the first period and mention who made the two goals for the Lightening.

The second tweet would be how the lightening are up 0-3 in the second period but the Bruins answer by scoring 2 goals making it a one score game. I would include a gif of one of the Bruins players that scored the goal.

The third tweet would be how the final score ends up being 3-5 with the Lightening holding onto the lead and their 5th goal was scored on an open net.

Snapchat: I would use to post videos of what is going on in the game with a small caption on the video to explain what is happening. Snapchat is good to show exciting parts of the game and can have it where the viewer can swipe up and get the full story.

The first snap I would do would be a video of the fight where it was a Bruins player and Lightening player who dropped their gloves and started fighting in the middle of the ice. I would include a caption of who the players were in the fight.

The second snap would be the replay of the second goal the Bruins made with a caption on how the call got reversed to count as a goal making the score 2-3 Lightening

The third snap would be a video of the crowds reaction when the refs reversed the call of the Bruins goal. The audience could see the excitement of the crowd and I would include a caption saying how the fans went crazy when the call was reversed.

Instagram: I would post a picture or video with a caption because much of Instagram is pictures and sometimes videos. I would do a short caption since Instagram is used on mobile devices. Instagram is a good way to reach the younger population and since it is on the phone I can post a picture I took on my phone from the game.

The first post would be a picture of the Bruins game with a caption that they are playing Tampa Bay Lightening and that the Bruins won the last match up.

The second post would be a video of the Lightening’s goalie making a save and have a second picture with the stats on how many goals he saved. I would put in the caption who the is video of and too swipe to see his stats.

The third post would be a picture of Chara holding one of the Lightening players against the boards and then put in the caption how he grabbed the guy’s stick and threw it up in the air.

You see the player on the ground is in a lot of pain and by where he is holding it looks to be his shin. The player standing over him I’m guessing is the one that caused the pain and to me looks like he trying to seem superior. I like how the crowd is blurred out in order to focus on the two players.

All of the emotion that can be drawn from this picture. You can see the excitement on Dwyane Wade’s face and the crowd in the background is on their feet cheering. With looking at the shot clock which is at zero meaning the Heat just won the game. The opposing team behind Wade you can see the disappointment on their faces.

I can feel the pain this guy must have felt after. Just seeing the guy getting hit and reaction, you can tell that kick has got to hurt. By the face of the guy kicking you can tell he is putting all of his strength into that kick. I like how the picture captures the ball as it hits the player in yellow, and I also like how bright the colors are and how it is kinda color coordinated.

Four Teams going into the Tournament with Top Résumés

It has been a season marked by upsets, a rotation of No. 1 teams and seemingly no clear-cut favorites moving forward. But over the past few weeks, we’ve started to get some separation at the top, especially when it comes to sorting teams by résumé.

The 1-seeds, as it stands, are fairly clear-cut: Baylor, Gonzaga, San Diego State and Kansas. Combined, those four teams have lost one game since the calendar turned to 2020, Kansas’ defeat to Baylor. They’re the top four teams in the NET rankings, four of the top five at KenPom, the top four in ESPN’s Strength of Record metrics — and the top four of the AP poll.

Baylor is the best team in the country, in my opinion, both in terms of the eye test and résumé. The Bears have fallen once all season, a three-point loss to Washington in Alaska in a game Baylor led for nearly its entirety.

Gonzaga has also lost just once, at the Battle 4 Atlantis. The Bulldogs have run roughshod over the West Coast Conference, with only two games decided by single digits. One factor moving forward for them is the availability of Killian Tillie.

San Diego State is the last unbeaten remaining in college basketball, and I think the Aztecs will enter the NCAA tournament without a loss. The Aztecs are one of the best defensive teams in the country and have a legitimate All-America candidate in Malachi Flynn.

Kansas, which has three losses — but is atop most metric-based rankings. There has been constant discussion about how there’s no dominant team in college basketball this season, but this Jayhawks’ adjusted efficiency margin would rank in the top three in all but two seasons in the KenPom era (since 2001-02). Kansas leads the nation in Quadrant 1 wins.

There’s still more than a month until conference tournaments start, and Louisville and Dayton are playing as well as anyone in the country right now, but the top-four teams in the rankings are in their own tier for now.

Baylor Bears (No. 1), Freddie Gillespie is one of the best stories in college basketball. For those who are unfamiliar, Gillespie started his career at Division III Carleton College. Following his sophomore campaign, he transferred to Baylor and sat out as a walk-on before earning a scholarship for the 2018-19 season. Now, he’s averaging 10.1 points, 9.3 rebounds and 2.4 blocks

Gonzaga’s (No. 2) past two games — at Santa Clara and at San Francisco — were two of the Bulldogs’ worst offensive outings in several weeks. Not surprisingly, one of them came when Tillie played only nine minutes and the other came with Tillie sidelined. There’s no definitive timetable for Tillie’s return, but the Zags need him healthy for the NCAA tournament.

Last week was supposed to be one of the San Diego State (No. 3) Aztecs’ tougher weeks in the regular season: a road trip to The Pit, where New Mexico hadn’t lost all season, and a home date with Utah State, the second-best team in the Mountain West. The trip to Albuquerque was a cakewalk, with San Diego State rolling by 28. State didn’t have trouble scoring against Utah State. Most of that stemmed from the Aggies shooting 42.9% from 3; no other opponent has reached 40% all season.

Kansas Jayhawks (No. 4)’ season entering its final regular-season month and discussions for the Wooden Award, Coach of the Year, Freshman of the Year, etc., heating up, I thought we should take a look at Devon Dotson’s for the Wooden Award. The only player in the country at least 5.0 adjusted points above replacement on both offense and defense at BartTorvik.com. I don’t think Dotson is the front-runner, but I think he deserves a seat at the table.

Introduction

Hi, my name is Abby Epstein and I am a transfer student from Florida. I decided to come up North to continue playing volleyball and to pursue a career in Journalism. The sport I am passionate about to no surprise is volleyball. I enjoy watching other sports like basketball, football, and hockey, but I am not as passionate about those as I am about volleyball. One of my favorite athletes who is now retired, is Misty May-Treanor, a three time olympic gold medalist in beach volleyball. She is one of my favorite athletes because she was a humble player. Misty May never gloated about how successful of a career she was having, or if she lost she never showed her attitude on camera. Overall, I enjoyed watching Misty May-Treanor play because I could see the passion she had for the sport when she played.
